On Saturday, April 10th i was hangin´out at the Sneakerness-Convention in Cologne and besides meeting a lot of nice people and checkin´out lots of cool kickz, i met Bobbito Garcia and had the chance to hand out the Bobbito-piece i did, which is inspired by his true-to-the-bone persona and the dedication and commitment he puts in everything he does.
"Radio Raheem" 80cmx120cm Acrylic & spraycan on canvas
This one is inspired by the strong and dangerous character of "Radio Raheem", who doesn´t like to speak with people, he´s communicating with the outside world throughout his ghettoblaster, by playin´the same song all day long: "Fight the power" by public enemy. There is much more to his character, but i rather let the painting do the talking. I love this movie so much, i´m thinking of doin´a "Mookie"-piece in the next time, can´t let him out!
"Who told you to step on my sneakers?!" 80cmx120cm Acrylic & Spraycan on canvas
This is the first painting of a series inspired by one of my favorite movies of all time: "Do the right thing" by Spike Lee. This one is inspired by the legendary scene, in which one of the main characters in the movie, "buggin´ out", can´t believe that a fella, who´s just passin him by, stepped on his brandnew, white Jordans he just bought, and keeps on going as if nothing happened, .....a situation everybody can relate to, who doesn´t love the feeling of putting on fresh-out-the-box, brandnew pair of kicks, and doesn´t hate it when an ignorant individual destroys that emotion by scuffing them up for the first time! C´mon fellas, do the right thing and don´t step on sneakers! Peace
Last few months i was off the radar, sitting in my little room working on new paintings, focusing on the work and not so much in taking pictures and posting them, i know i´m a lazy blogger but, here you have it, "the newest-latest" like my man radio raheem said. Starting off with this stilllife, an old painting discipline i gave a new, very personal touch.
